We present you the Frassati Project, what is it and what are the requirements to apply? Discover it in this post.
What is it?
The Frassati Project is a financial programme of the IDYM International Commission with the support of the General Curia of the Order that seeks to subsidise up to 800 euros per person to the official representatives of the various national DYM.
Requirements
To be an official representative of a DYM (National Coordinator or National Representative. Also Socius if they have more than 100 members). It is indispensable to apply through the application form (see the Frassati Project instructions below) and to attach a letter from the Provincial, Vice Provincial or Vicar Superior.
What the 2023 call said
The Frassati Project instructions are a letter from the International Commission dated 27 February 2023 and addressed to National Coordinators and Socius. They refer to the call linked to the International Assembly of the IDYM convened in Lisbon, Portugal, from 6 to 9 August 2023, to celebrate the centenary of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati’s entry into the Order and the 30th anniversary of the IDYM.
- Who could apply: people who met the requirements to be full members of the International Assembly, that is, official representatives of their national movements (national coordinators or delegates) and their socius where applicable, under the age of 35.
- What was funded: up to 800 euros per person (not per country) to help representatives attend the Assembly. According to the concept paper, the grant was meant to cover a significant part of travel costs as an incentive, not to finance all expenses.
- How to apply: by filling in the single registration form for the Assembly, completing the Frassati Project sections and attaching the “Letter of Commitment and Guarantees”, co-signed by the applicant and their Prior or Prioress Provincial. Applicants in acute need could explain their circumstances in the form.
- Priority: applications were reviewed in order of arrival, and incomplete ones went back to the waiting list. If funds required it, applications from Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America were to be given priority.
- Conditions: applying did not guarantee a grant. The International Commission freely allocated the limited funds available and could ask for additional information or documents.
- Dates of that call: the instructions gave these projected dates: the call was expected to open by Monday 13 February 2023, applications would be received no later than Monday 20 March 2023, and results would be communicated by email by Monday 27 March 2023.
In a letter to the Dominican Family, the Master of the Order, fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, endorsed the Frassati Project and asked major superiors to support the IDYM so that young Dominicans could join WYD 2023 and take part in the Assembly.
