Dominican Young Adults visit Bethany House

On Sunday, September 30, Members of the New York Chapter of Dominican Young Adults USA along with sisters from the Amityville Congregation held and participated in a pizza and bingo night for the women and children of BethanyHouse, a women and childrens shelter founded and run by Sister Aimee Koomen O.P, that gives women a comfortable and safe place to get back on their feet.

After the meal provided by the DYA we played some very lively and energetic games of BINGO with the women and children! The packed kitchen was filled with laughter and joy and conversation with our new found friends! The children loved the toys they received as prizes almost as much as the ice cream, cookies and brownies they had for dessert! Everyone was so welcoming and open to having us share the night with them.

Our Dominican Young Adults “preached” on Sunday night through the service of being present to those who need it most, we were able to serve and be served in the process. This was just one event over the last several years that we have partnered with Bethany house to live out our mission of being with the poor and marginalized and going where we are needed.
