On August 31, the Master of the Order, fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP confirmed the election of the new International Commission of IDYM (2022-2026). This decision ratifies the democratic election made by the young people belonging to the Dominican Youth Movement around the world, gathered virtually in their International Elective Assembly.
Thus, the new commission is made up of young people from different regions, who will bring a diversity of languages, cultures and professions to the exercise of these responsibilities. The new International Coordinator is Carlos Beltrán, until now National Coordinator for Colombia. At 23 years old and a lawyer by profession, succeeding Engineer Elijor Benjamin Rodil from the Philippines (2016-2022).
Kuda Joshua Mufandaedza was also elected as Promoter of Formation. He is 28 years old and comes from Zimbabwe. He was serving as Communications Promoter at ADYM (DYM’s regional organization in Africa). He works as a sales executive.
Madelen Jaimes Hurtado, from Bolivia, is the new Mission Promoter. She served for several years as Sub-coordinator of the Dominican Youth Movement of Veritas La Mansion in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia. She is currently an active member of the DYM Santa Rosa de Lima, accompanied by the Dominican Sisters. She is 28 years old and a psychologist by profession.
Nathan Agustin, from the Philippines, was elected as Promoter of Communication. He is 23 years old and the outgoing National Coordinator of DYM Philippines. He is currently a final year law student at the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas where he serves as President of the Student Council.
In the same vein, Isioma Chukwuka-Nwodo from Nigeria was elected as Finance Promoter. She has been involved in the movement for 17 years and has served as DYM’s regional coordinator in Africa. At the age of 32, she is a medical doctor and is about to start her medical specialization studies.
Fr. Juan Ubaldo López Salamanca, OP, General Promoter for the Dominican Laity, is the assistant of the International IDYM Commission. The International Commission has the mission to provide support for the formation and development of the groups in the different regions, in close collaboration with the major superiors (Cf. Statute IDYM 2017, 3.6.) The Youth Movement is composed of 4,200 members present in 35 countries.
